Having entered the South Korean market in 2010, it seems like Taco Bell Korea is used to being late to the party. The new offerings, however, look worthy enough for at least a taste.

Romanian-Born Basketball Player Dreams Big in Korea

Basketball player Sonia Kim, a.k.a. Sonia Ursu, has drawn interest among basketball fans due to her exotic appearance on the court. She joined Woori Bank’s women’s basketball team as its new shooting guard in October.
Her mother Gabriela fell in love with her father, a Korean engineer, while she was vacationing and he was working at a shipyard in Romania.

Japanese Actress Gives Birth in Korea

A top Japanese actress has given birth in Korea recently because she was impressed by postnatal care here. Koyuki Kato (36) gave birth to her second daughter in Seoul last Thursday.
A former model, Koyuki starred in the 2003 movie “The Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise as well as a string of Japanese movies. In 2011 she married fellow actor Kenichi Matsuyama (27), who starred in the movie “Death Note.”
Tom Cruise Refuses To Do ‘Gangnam Style’ Dance
Despite being recently bestowed an honorary Korean citizenship, Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise refused to do the dance of our people, the Metro UK newspaper reportedbreathlessly on Thursday.
The Mission Impossible 5 star was in South Korea promoting his new film, Jack Reacher, and politely refused to perform an impromptu rendition of Psy’s famous horse-riding dance as seen in the hit video, “Gangnam Style.”
41 Korean Soccer Players Receive Lifetime Bans for Match-Fixing
Forty one South Korean soccer players were given lifetime bans from the sport for engaging in the domestic game-fixing scandal in the summer of 2011.
Soccer’s international governing body FIFA announced on Wednesday that the players will be permanently banned from all soccer activities worldwide. However, 21 players who turned themselves in earlier during the 2012 voluntary reporting period may return to soccer after a probation period of between two and five years.
Samsung’s Dominance Is Worrying for Korea

Samsung Electronics achieved staggeringearnings in 2012 with sales totaling W201 trillion and operating profit of W29 trillion (US$1=W1,063). Sales were up a 21.9 percent and operating profit a massive 85.8 percent compared to 2011.
Samsung managed to rise to the top of the global mobile phone market by rolling out hit products despite a global slump and a nasty patent dispute with Apple.
Anti-Japan Protestor Stabs Himself in Stomach
A 57-year-old man known for protesting against Japan stabbed himself in the stomach in demonstration against the Japanese envoy’s visit to president-elect Park Geun-hye.
Kim Chang-geun was part of a civic group demonstrating at Gimpo Airport in Seoul awaiting the arrival of Fukushiro Nukaga when he plunged the five-inch blade into his stomach. He was later taken to the hospital, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail newspaper.
The South Gate Will Stay Closed A Little Longer

Cold weather is keeping Sungnyemun’s gate closed for longer.
The restoration of Sungnyemun, also known as Namdaemun, which is Korean for big south gate, will take four more months, an official said Friday.
